Formed 23 years ago (1989), the Alcan Quartet is, year after year, among Canada’s most active chamber music ensembles, performing an average of 75 concerts each season, touring nationally and internationally and adding to its extensive recording catalog (labels : ATMA, Analekta, CBC).

The quartet receives praise from audiences and critics alike for its unique sonority, its clockwork like precision, and its talent for communicating with audiences. Highlights of the quartet’s 2010-11 season included tours to Korea, Italy, and British Colombia and a concert at the Launaudière Festival with pianist Alain Lefevre where the quartet performed for an audience of over 6000 people, a unique accomplishment for any classical chamber music ensemble!

In the fall of 2011 the quartet releases it newest CD, a collection of favorite short pieces from around the world which have been audience favorites in recent seasons and in 2012 the quartet will release its recording (on the ATMA label) of the Beethoven string quartet cycle.
